What Does Goddess See in Jesus?
All religions grow and change over time, and also deteriorate and crumble with their civilizations. Our Christian religion went along the path of patriarchy long enough to see the possible extinction of the planet because of lack of regard for values of the Mother. But no more, we're now in the lucky time of turning it around and seeing some healthy feminine values at the heart of Christianity. We now see that there was a goddess there and that Jesus knew it .
"We want to express the gratefulness that Mary Magdalene felt in experiencing the regard with which Jesus held her. And to this end, we ask Mary to speak now.....". Those were the words said to me in 1996 when I was channeling what I called "Cosmic Intelligence" and which named itself "Energies of Grace". I wasn't looking for contact with Mary Magdalene but that's what broke through that morning. I've thought about this alot, that Mary Magdalene's consciousness in it's soul state wanted to make sure we know that she was grateful for the way Jesus treated her. Apparently he held her in high regard, as well as loving her.
I wonder what that was like. I wonder why Goddess chose this man to represent the Sacred Masculine?
Magdalene's channeled soul voice told me the story this way, "My heart was magnetized to him, and as if in dreamtime, he came to find me. This was a man, remember this. He came to me in wonder, with a look in his eye of curiosity at his own feelings. I could not know his feelings but I could see his actions and feel the softness of his words. I loved him and wondered why. He said he knew there was teaching for him from me, this he knew for sure. I just listened. What kind of man would love and say he wished to learn from me and knew not what it was he came to learn? He was not to conquer, he was not to 'have' me...he said he was to learn. And thus I came into his story." (The Mary Magdalene Within, pg.13)
That must be one of the reasons, that he was a man who was not afraid to say he needed to learn from the woman he loved.
I find another reason Goddess chose Jesus to be our archetypal pattern for the Sacred Masculine in the story of raising Lazarus from the dead. For this piece of learning, I thank Margaret Starbird. It comes from our book Mary Magdalene:The Way of the Heart.(Inner Traditions,Spring '09). You all know the story but you may not have noticed how much Jesus is influenced by Mary Magdalene in it. John 11 tells us that Lazarus was deathly ill and Jesus was told this but said he'd stay two more days where he was, not going home to his family at Bethany. He behaved as though it was all worked out and knew what would happen, no need to rush. A lesson was at hand. But when he came back home, "Mary fell down at His feet, saying to Him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping,....He groaned in the spirit and was troubled... .Jesus wept." (John 11:32-35).
He was troubled only when he saw his wife, his Sacred Partner, weeping. He was effected by his wife's hurting heart and it made his spirit groan and he wept with her. His heart was moved by her heart.
How pleasing it must be to Goddess to tell us this story of the Sacred Masculine who is moved by the tears of his wife.
There's more to say on this subject, but I'd love to hear from you too. As we go into the New Creation, remaking and re-loving our world back into balance, we need to know what is the Sacred Masculine to us.

Regarding your piece titled "What does Goddess see in Jesus," I am very happy to see this dialogue opened up. My experience is that this kind of dialogue opens the bridge for healing between Goddess Religion and Christianity.
In my new upcoming book, "The Holy Book of Mary Magdalene: The Path of the Grail Steward," this subject is extensively addressed. I honor Mary Magdalene as the Sacred Feminine and Jesus as the Sacred Masculine.
In my journey to experience the Sacred Marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, I had to confront the Bridegroom from my history and perspective in Goddess Religion. It took time, but I finely made my way through the injustices perpetrated by orthodox Christianity, and found the the man, the Sacred Man, that Mary Magdalene loved.
In exploring the creation of Seasonal Festivals and personal Sacred Ceremonies for Mary Magdalene and Jesus , I found Jesus to be a great being of light, a great teacher, and a compassionate man. I believe that he knew Mary Magdalene as an incarnation of the Goddess, and for me, their union is the perfect duality, created by the Everlasting.

Hi Jennifer, Thanks so much for your comment. I love the way you describe your journey and I know that many, many people will be excited about reading your upcoming book. On another blog someone described the Divine Feminine as "evolutionary" and I think your book is along those lines. Taking us into the age of truly sacred partnership.
Check out this blog www.northernway.org.weblog for some like minded folk who would love to hear about your book.
I put up a recorded meditation called "In the Garden" about meeting the Beloved and I think it fits in with our theme of discussion today. http://marymagdalenewithin.podomatic.com

Hi, Joan,
It is so true that when the Sacred Feminine is absent, so, too, is the Sacred Masculine. Yes, Margaret Starbird has helped me understand this, also.
What you have helped me do is find and hold the Divine Feminine within myself. As we do this, I believe the re-emergence of the Sacred Masculine will sponstaneously occur.
Here's what I am sensing:
What I know from personal experience is that within many churches and within the greater cultural context, the Masculine is all out of balance and not longer Sacred because of its denial of the Sacred Feminine.
The urge to be in union with the Sacred Feminine is a powerful drive. When no Sacred Feminine is acknowledged by the culture, the angry part the masculine energies cannot be cooled down and this anger and hatred is visited upon the "merely human woman" through whom the Sacred Feminine archetype cannot be seen by the Masculine separated from its sacredness.
All women experience the energetic pattern of this hatred in their lives. Abused women experience it in its most awful form.
Even the popular culture, acknowledges this pattern. For example, in THE COLOR PURPLE, when Shug Avery asks Celie why her husband beats her, Celie answers: He beats me because I am not you.
In my own journey toward recovering the Sacred Feminine in myself, I was guided to understand this ugly truth: The divine will seek out the divine and when the human culture or personality does not acknowledge that divine spark in another, when the cultural blinders do their job, the desire for union is degraded and becomes simply the desire "to have."
Then in a frenzy for the Sacred Union which has been denied them, men beat and rape women because "they are not" Her.
Surely, if they could see the Divine Feminine archetype shining through every female, then they would be unable to reach out in hate and harm.
And, no, I am not saying that it is the role of women to save men. I am saying that our only protection comes through re-connecting with the goddess energies within ourselves.
And that is what may allow the energies of resurrection to constellate and bring forth the Divine Masculine.
That seems to be what happened when Jesus, late to the bedside of Lazarus, felt the compassion of the Divine Feminine for the lost one, wept, and then resurrected Lazarus.
There's a pattern here that I am learning from.
Thanks for helping me see it.
Peace,
Sandra Pope
