Mary Magdalene at the 2008 Gaia Festival
My dream several years ago when I organized a Margaret Starbird-Mary Magdalene event here in Los Angeles was to help bring Magdalene into the Goddess community, and this weekend it finally "jelled". The Gaia Festival's theme of "Mother Mysteries" was perfect for Margaret Starbird's talk about Christianity's "missing wife and mother", Mary Magdalene. Margaret told the stories of the "flight into Egypt" that was most probably a pregnant Magdalene who had just lost her husband, and of the "journey in a boat with no oars" to the shores of France with Princess Sarah many years later. Of course we all know how their sea journey is still celebrated each year in the French village called "the three Marys". My favorite part of the story is that little Sarah, dark from her obscurity in her own story, has a new dress put on her each year before she's carried to the sea to re-enact her journey to a new land. This always makes me feel justified about still being drawn to playing with doll clothes.
At the Gaia Festival we were in a beautiful outdoor spot in the Santa Monica Mountains, perfect for the opening ceremony centered on "speaking the truth of the elements". We circled, we clapped, we spoke about fire, air, water, earth, and the center spiral of mystery. Hummingbirds and dragonflies seemed attracted to us and danced about our heads. Talented drummers and dancers, healers with their tables on the lawn, lots of books to look at, good food....these are just some of the wonderful things of the day.

There's Margaret and I, both in our "Magdalene red", raising arms to the glories of Creation.
Margaret told many, many stories of the synchronicities in her life which have led her along her amazing path of discovery of Jesus' full humanity. She's a very humorous speaker, something you might not feel just from reading her books. She tells in her autobiographical book, Goddess in the Gospels, how she was led and guided and shown the way through synchronistic happenings . She has truly lived her life in service and response to God...or "Godde" as she likes to call the Divine.
It was a literary weekend for me because there were two other Magdalene authors I got to meet. C.A. Thomas came from Boulder , she's the author of a deeply loving story telling of Jesus and Magdalene called King and Queen. It's a nice book for younger women who want the truly romantic tale of their love story with all its authentic time period details. Shannon Anderson was also there and I was happy to meet her, although we didn't get to talk much at all. You can read more about Shannon's book called The Magdalene Awakening. She was also led by synchronistic happenings to her spiritual awareness about Magdalene and she shares LOTS of metaphysical knowledge with us along the way.
There are so many more books coming out that tell tales of women's inner experiences of being led to the "re-membering " of the divinity of Mary Magdalene and her Sacred Union with Jesus....maybe you have had one too. Why not write about it and share? Personally, I never get tired of these stories.
I've noticed that women who've become "emissaries of the Sacred Union" are also telling me about dreams where Jesus visits them in very direct ways. To me, this is a good sign that the balance of masculine-feminine energies which is inherent in the blueprint of Christianity, is making itself known more and more within us. The inner balance of Sacred Complements is the only way to the New Creation, don't you think?

Love the photos, Joan! O how I wish I could have been there.... I DO of course remember your MaryMagdalene event several years ago when you first started your noble mission to bring Magdalene into the Goddess Movement. 'Cause I was there! I met so many people there that are now friends. Too bad I am in faraway Florida nowadays because it sounds like the L.A. Magdalene is our Christian Goddess Movement is really thriving! I just really like those photos. Do you have any more?
Warmly,
Katia

Yes, you dear darling girl, you and Sasha were brave, intrepid travelers coming all the way to L.A. to give us your talk "God Has a Wife". It was so popular, lots of people wanted you back the next year (but I was cheap). I wish we lived closer, wouldn't it be fun to create more events? What kinds of things are you doing in Florida? Love to know!
I'll put up some more photos as i get them. They have to come from other people....it's enough that I mange to plug in the projector.

Hi Jenny, I certainly felt you were an important part of the weekend, and Margaret said she was "delighted" to visit with you yesterday. How exciting is it that she wants to use some of the ritual poetry from your book? Pretty exciting. And I'm looking forward to interviewing you soon about your book so I can share with everyone what you've created. Yes, hail the Magdalene...it seems like the time for creating form to honor her is coming

Thanks Joan,
Yes! It was amazing to meet the Lady Margaret Starbird, she's so "on-point" to her purpose and with such a high spiritual focus. She really holds the Magdalene spiritual energy.
And thank you Joan, for hosting an upcoming Q & A for my new book, "The Holy Book of Mary Magdalene: The Path of the Grail Steward." I appreciate the opportunity to answer questions with background info, and clarifying info.
Love, Jennifer

Wow, I so wish I could have been there! I could use a good, nourishing dose of being with women who play with and embody the sacred feminine.
You have asked for stories here of remembering and sacred union....I have too many to tell. I will say that I just finished your lovely book and it felt like I was reading about myself (I'm sure you have heard that before!)
I did have an experience that I spoke about on my radio show...it was a story of the marriage and consummation of my Inner Feminine and Masculine....a kind of Wild Mother and her King. I had never heard of anything quite like it before, but it turns out to be one of my most popular shows. If you'd like, you can listen at this link

I'd love to hear from you!

Hi Licia,
Thanks for responding with your own story...I know people will want to go to your podcast and hear more. I love the phrase "Wild Mother and her King". I haven't heard that and it seems very apt for many of the women I know. We've had "wild woman" in our consciousness for awhile but the "her king" part feels new. I wonder if our collective "remembering" of the sacred union inherent in original Christianity has contributed to the articulation of "the king".
I'm looking forward to seeing you when you're here in L.A. later this month, Licia. I'll call today. xoJoan

Dearest Joan,
thank you for your beautiful description of the day. I loved that the theme Mother Mysteries held a secret and sacred meaning for each of us who attended. The Mother speaks to us all in her own language of symbols, numbers and signs, doesn't she?
More than ever before I'm feeling the Magdalene energy around me, especially through my daughter. Even when she was in utero I called her my little priestess and had dreams of us from another dimension working together as healers and magicians.
And ever since the festival, I'm seeing signs of the Magdalene and getting the desire to read more about her and study more images.
Thank you for midwifing us into the Magdalene energy through your incredible contribution to our spiritual community. She surely smiles on you constantly, adoringly and gratefully.
Blessings and love,
Kris

Hi Kris, thank you for your heartfelt comments and for sharing your little daughter Sarafina with us. I've said to several people that I've truly never met a baby with such a bright and steady gaze as Sarafina has. It makes me happy to think about the worlds she will influence. And a big thank you to YOU for creating, with Stephanie, the wonderful tradition of a Gaia Festival for Los Angeles. xo Joan
