The rush of energy wants something. She wants to celebrate and be in union with life. I don't know how the "real" Mary Magdalene felt about union and sacred marriage and Jesus the love of her life, but I don't think these eternal truths have changed that much. We feel the rush of life energy inside us ether for a love relationship or a creative relationship. Something's going to happen. There's fullness and swelling and budding and singing. She has perfume which causes everyone to be upset and take notice. Jesus tells the others to calm down, she's here to stay. I don't think they felt the things he felt. Forever more the Spring Maiden has done this to men. She is the surge of "life itself", Godde is Earth. She is magnetic and electricity is attracted to her. She is the Magdalene and the Christ wants her. 
We're in her part of the story now where she is in the garden and she is the garden. She is awakening...in every sense from the physical to the metaphysical. She begins to grow again for the year's cycles and something new will surely be born. But first the union. And before the marriage, the feelings of bursting forth and rushing energies.The feeling that it's almost too much. Not sure I can handle it. Maybe that's the disciples response to Mary called the Magdalene in their story...."I'm not sure I can handle her". Jesus said she would be remembered for the anointing that she did. She would be remembered as the Bride who is the Queen. When you remember the anointing, he said, you will remember her. It's the scene which is told most often because it's the central theme of it all.
What to do with that rush of love or that rush of creative urge? Find it a mate or a "mode of expression". That's the marriage part, the coming together of the rushing energies with a way to hold them. It's the "container" function of the alabaster jar. It's the Jesus to the Mary. It's the earth structure to the boundless energy of the cosmos. It's the yang to the yin and it seeks union.
I'm sorry this doesn't show up very well in the ride into Jerusalem. Maybe she was in the background with a garland of flowers in her hair and the long green brocade dress on, feeling the rushing energies within her. Spring Maiden Magdalene, we are all her right now.

Yes, I feel it too. Here the air is warming, and the freshness of the sea rolls in in the morning. Warmth and moisture call life into more 'becoming,' more growing, more joy. Mary in her green dress, in the garden with her Beloved, expectant and filled with love. I feel that they love each other so much and that in this season they are waking us, waking us to a life of beauty and joy. How something so simple can have been undone by so many in centuries past. But it is a new time, isn't it, and they are with us now! We are so lucky.

Nice rush of divinity. With spring we have the resurrection of the divine lovers who consummate their love as divine partners after a separation. Jesus and Mary Magdalene are the embodiment of the divine lovers,Adonis and Aphrodite, and the mythology wove their destiny. You would be interested in reading my article on the topic

Thanks, Ariadne, for sharing your writing and your feeling for the archetypal lovers that they are. I have read your article before.... maybe last springtime.... and enjoyed it very much. Others will too. You give the wider context within which their marriage takes place. It's so incredibly helpful to understand that they were repeating the stories of other archetypal lovers. You give many good details of the myths.... I hope people "click through" and read it.

Oh yes Joan, you are so right on with this! I feel it also, as do women I speak with. Here in California we have the EARLY AWAKENING in February because of our blessed velvet green hills and shoreline bursting forth with new life. Freya has struck her hammer on the cold ground (it never really froze), Brigit has rekindled the sacred flame and off they go to the Garden with their Beloveds! Our Magnificent Magdalene is encouraging us to realize We are the Vessel of Life.
We must first take care of our selves and nurture the GODDESS WITHIN. The anointing is key here, taking care with the "container". We must anoint ourselves everyday with just a bit of natural warm oil, from head to foot. Sesame, Coconut, Grape seed, whichever we gravitate to. From the ancient knowledge that is over 5000 years old, Ayurvedic teachers who believe in The Christ Consciousness, teach us that this simple practice shields us from negative energies and nurtures our bodies and protects our souls. Thank you! The Chalice Well symbol is profound, isn't it ? It's not an accident that the "modern miracle" of the crop circles with their profound Sacred Geometry are near those holy sites in Britain. On last Monday's online Magdalene Circle (Feb. 22, 2010)Ani Williams and Lerin Winter were talking about the deep awakenings they experienced in the Chalice Well area. That first image just blows me away! Is it available for purchase?...my garden is saving my sanity during multiple challenges in my life, so thanks especially for material on gardens...Like the Magdalene, I am awaiting return of the Beloved, so her story comforts and inspires me in multiple ways.
